Market Close · after the US bell
Market Close — Wed, Oct 21, 2026
ZEC +10% shorts torched · SpaceX rips again · Nasdaq +1% tech back
Tape as of 3:21pm CT · Hyperliquid perps & HIP-3 · Coinglass · 24h
📣The slate
- Shorts paid for the whole party again.
- Zcash is the strongest chart in crypto. Not close.
- SpaceX keeps ripping. Bears keep shorting it.
- Tech is back in charge of the indices.
- Perp-DEX tokens woke up. Lighter led.
- Memes green across the board, nobody levered.
- HYPE is the laggard. Funding negative.
- Oil still a war price and the market stopped caring.
📉The tape
Short squeeze, part two. BTC through 84K, ZEC +10%, and the 12h liquidation tape is 78% shorts. Bears pressed the Monday ETF print and got run over during US hours.

Mood: risk-on, and still not crowded. BTC funding is negative at 84K. People are short a market going up. Disgusting setup for bears.
🏦Macro
Nobody is scared of anything. WTI $97.73, Brent $105.78 with the Iran war still running and no ceasefire in sight, and stocks rallied straight through it. Gold $4,136, silver $57.89, both asleep. Natgas −5%. The Fed meets Oct 28 with hike talk still in the air, and the tape is pricing a hold and moving on. No yield print pulled today; the equity tape says yields aren't the story this afternoon.

₿Bitcoin
- 84,473, +2.2%. Was low 82s this morning, through 84K in US hours. Holding 84 into the close makes Monday's ETF bid look like the start, not the top.
- ETF flows: Mon +$526.7M (IBIT +$665M, biggest IBIT day in a year), Tue +$23.2M. Today not posted yet. Last week's bleed fully erased.
- Positioning: OI $3.46B on HL, funding −0.0005%. Negative funding at a local high. $79M of BTC shorts liquidated vs $7M longs. Squeeze fuel left in the tank.

- LIT $3.86, +19%. Insane. Lighter leads on $55M volume with funding −0.024%: shorts paying to stay wrong. Perp-DEX rotation is on and HYPE isn't the vehicle today.
- ENA $0.2155, +12%. Biggest move in the CT set after LIT. OI $104M.
- NEAR $5.26, +7.7% on $304M volume, the second-busiest alt on HL. Real money.
- VVV $26.80, +7.4%. Venice keeps grinding. PURR +5.2%, MON +3%.
- XMR $616, −0.9%. Privacy trade is ZEC only. Again.

| kPEPE | 0.004673 | +2.2% | $43M |
| DOGE | 0.0828 | +1.4% | $99M |
Memes back, all green. PUMP +7.2% on $92M volume is the category leader and kBONK +5.3% right behind: launchpads bid as a pair. kPEPE funding 0.035% is the only crowded long on the board.
Trenches: bonk.fun vs pump.fun is still the fight (Bonk.fun took launch/revenue lead late Sept, single source). Volume is thin outside PUMP. Beta bounce, not a mania.
🛡Zcash
- $1,346, +10.3%. Generational chart. Best large-cap on the board by a mile.
- $15.2M ZEC shorts liquidated vs $1.3M longs. OI $744M, funding flat at 0.01%, $387M volume. Squeeze with no leverage chase. Healthy.
- Next: Zcon7 in Cancún Oct 27–29, Zcash's 10th birthday Oct 28. Shielded pool ~30% of supply. Six days of narrative runway.
💧HYPE / Hyperliquid
- $80.96, +0.8%. Laggard. Everything ripped, HYPE barely moved, funding −0.0098%, OI $1.66B. Shorts leaning on it and nobody got liquidated either way ($0.7M total).
- HIP-3 is still the venue. SPCX $440M, SKHX $357M, S&P $270M, Nasdaq $259M, WTI $220M in 24h. Stock perps out-volumed SOL on the exchange. Fees go to buybacks, so the flywheel keeps turning while the token sleeps.
🤖AI & pre-IPO
- SPCX $159, +5.4% on HIP-3, cash stock up nearly 8% intraday. Listed since June at $135. Bears keep fading it, it keeps going.
- Pre-IPO perps: OpenAI 1,540 (+1.9%) · Anthropic 1,964 (+2.5%). Anthropic outperforming again.
- Chip tape: SK Hynix, AMD and META +3–4%, NVDA +2.3%, Oracle and Google red. Hardware over hyperscalers today.
- Tesla Q3 after the bell; TSLA ran +4.3% into it.
🗞Headlines
- Nasdaq +1.05%, S&P +0.58% — tech rotation back on, XLK +1.7%. Verdict: bid.
- SpaceX up nearly 8% intraday — the stock the bears can't stop shorting. Verdict: relentless.
- IBIT's $665M Monday — biggest day since Oct 2025, two-day spot ETF haul ~$550M. Verdict: flows back.
- India's Sensex and Nifty closed lower as crude topped $110 there on Middle East tension — oil shock lives in EM, not in Nasdaq. Verdict: decoupled.
- Iran war, no end in sight — Brent holds $105 and nobody in US equities flinches. Verdict: priced.
- Bonk.fun vs pump.fun — launchpad war continues; PUMP and BONK both bid today. Verdict: duopoly.
- Fed Oct 28 — hike talk under Warsh never fully died; hold is the base case. Verdict: next week's problem.
