AI bubble talk sinks Nasdaq 2% · Zcash loses 1,200 · Brent $106
Tape as of 3:20pm CT · Hyperliquid marks & HIP-3 · Coinglass · Farside · 24h
📣The slate
- Thursday's squeeze lasted one session. Rented, returned.
- AI got sold like a bubble. Memory and neoclouds took the worst of it.
- Oil was the only thing with a bid. Energy up, everything else down.
- Bitcoin held the 80s and did nothing else. Boring is the bull case.
- Zcash gave back the reclaim. Twelve hundred is resistance again.
- Crypto stocks bled harder than the coins. MSTR worst of the bunch.
- Starknet round-tripped the unlock pump. Supply showed up after all.
- Memes fried. Nobody's in the trenches on a Friday like this.
📉The tape
Every major red, the higher-beta the worse. BTC −0.9%, ETH −1.9%, SOL −2.2%, HYPE −3.4%, ZEC −6.8%. A clean beta ladder. Crypto followed the Nasdaq down during US hours and never tried to decouple.
| Perp | Price | 24h | OI | Funding/8h |
| BTC | 81,614 | −0.9% | $3.37B | 0.0100% |
| ETH | 2,413 | −1.9% | $2.58B | −0.0038% |
| SOL | 103.62 | −2.2% | $599M | −0.0198% |
| HYPE | 79.19 | −3.4% | $1.57B | 0.0100% |
| ZEC | 1,152 | −6.8% | $539M | 0.0100% |
| 💥 Rekt | Total | Longs | Shorts | Long % |
| 24h | $320M | $222M | $98M | 69% |
| Last 4h | $122M | $101M | $20M | 83% |
| BTC | $84M | $59M | $26M | 70% |
| ETH | $71M | $39M | $33M | 54% |
| SOL | $10.7M | $8.4M | $2.3M | 78% |
| ZEC | $10.6M | $7.9M | $2.7M | 74% |
| HYPE | $1.2M | $1.05M | $0.18M | 85% |
Mood: the squeeze-chasers from Thursday got flushed in the last four hours. $320M is a small number for a red day. Nobody had much on. SOL and ETH funding negative: shorts are paying to stay in, which is how the next squeeze gets loaded.
🏦Macro
Oil is running the regime. WTI $98.83 (+2.8%), Brent $106.40 (+3.2%) with the Iran war showing no exit, and energy was the only S&P sector that worked (+2.5%). Gold $4,169 flat, silver $57.00 (−0.7%), natgas −4.3%. Hot CPI and hot PPI already printed this week. Crude near $100 is doing the tightening for the Fed, and the Oct 28 FOMC is not walking into a cut with that tape. Nobody is pricing relief.
📈Stocks
| Name | Price | Day |
| S&P 500 (cash) | 7,659 | −1.1% |
| Nasdaq Comp (cash) | 26,140 | −2.1% |
| Dow (cash) | 52,002 | −0.3% |
| Nasdaq-100 (xyz) | 29,186 | −2.5% |
| Nikkei (xyz) | 63,658 | −3.1% |
| Korea EWY (xyz) | 149.95 | −4.1% |
- Indices: Thursday's Dow rip gave way to a tech dump; tech sector −3%+. Russell sank too. Korea and Japan perps already pricing a rough Asia Monday.
- Semis / big AI: SNDK 1,295 (−6.8%) · SKHX 914.55 (−6.6%) · ARM 228 (−6.6%) · INTC 89.73 (−6.2%) · MRVL 228 (−5.9%) · AMD 528.55 (−5.8%) · MU 877 (−5.7%) · DELL 451 (−4.7%) · ORCL 128.4 (−4.4%) · AVGO 329.6 (−4.2%) · META 710 (−3.2%) · NVDA 213.84 (−1.7%) · MSFT 528.6 (−1.8%). Neoclouds gutted: NBIS −12.4%, CRWV −12.2%, SOXL −12.7%. AAPL 343 (+0.4%) the lone green. Verdict: memory is the short, NVDA is the hiding spot.
- Defense / space: PLTR 185.19 (−7.5%) · RKLB 50.85 (−8.9%). High-multiple everything got hit.
- Consumer / crypto: MSTR 136.93 (−9.5%) · COIN 173.47 (−5.2%) · CRCL 82.35 (−4.9%) · HOOD 99.20 (−4.4%, under 100) · SPCX 145.98 (−2.0%). Equity beta on crypto did 5–10x the coins again, in the wrong direction this time.
₿Bitcoin
- 81,614, −0.9%. Gave back most of Thursday's squeeze but held the 80s. Lose 80K and it opens up. Reclaim the mid-83s and the week's chop is a base.
- ETF flows: Thu +$5.1M (IBIT +$16.8M, FBTC flat), after Wed's −$261M. Friday not posted yet. Allocators aren't selling, they've just stopped buying.
- Positioning: HL OI $3.37B, funding at the 0.01% baseline, $84M liquidated (70% longs). Spot-led, low leverage. Bears wanted a breakdown on a −2% Nasdaq day and got −0.9%.
- Strategy: MSTR −9.5% while BTC fell under 1%. MSCI dropping Strategy from its indexes (single source) is the overhang, and the last buy was the smallest of 2026. The bid behind the coin is shrinking.

- STRK 0.0718, −17.9%. Round trip. Thursday's unlock-day pump fully undone, and then some. Supply always wins eventually.
- XMR 557, +1.6%. Privacy rotation flipped: Monero green while Zcash bled 7%. Same trade, other ticker.
- LIT 3.13, +1.6%. One of two CT names green. Perp-DEX token that couldn't bounce Thursday held up on the down day. Contrarian tape.
- NEAR 5.02, −6.6% on $216M volume. Thursday's 12% rip mostly given back. VVV 22.92, −8.4%. AI-coin beta getting sold with the AI stocks.
- TIA +14% the only real gainer with volume. No headline found. Squeeze, not story.
- SOL 103.62, −2.2%, funding −0.02%. Shorts paying. ENA 0.199 (−2.5%) with the most negative funding in the CT set.

Memes fried, orderly. Most of the sector down 1–3%, less than the alts, because there's nothing left to sell. PUMP −5.5% on $70M volume with $157M OI: the launchpad token is still the worst large chart on the board, and the pump.fun-vs-bonk.fun fight isn't helping it.
Trenches: closed for the weekend. CASHCAT −10.5% is the only meme with a move, and it's the wrong way.
🛡Zcash
- $1,152, −6.8%. Worst major on the board. Thursday's reclaim of 1,200 failed inside one session. 1,200 is resistance again; 1,100 is the line bulls have to hold.
- OI $539M, volume $336M, funding baseline. $10.6M liquidated, 74% longs. Late longs from the squeeze paid.
- Monero green while Zcash bled. Not a privacy-trade unwind, a ZEC positioning unwind. That's the better version.
- Zcon7 Oct 27–29, Zcash turns 10 on 10/28. No fresh ZEC headline today: this was all beta and positioning.
💧HYPE / Hyperliquid
- $79.19, −3.4%, back under 80. Funding 0.01% (neutral), OI $1.57B, only $1.2M liquidated. Selling, not liquidating.
- HIP-3 kept the volume: SK Hynix $351M, Nasdaq-100 $351M, S&P $293M, TSLA $274M, WTI $229M, Brent $201M, SPCX $186M. People came to Hyperliquid to short chips and buy oil. The venue wins on a day the token loses.
- PURR −5.4%, ecosystem beta lower again.
🤖AI & pre-IPO
- Pre-IPO perps: Anthropic 1,930 (−5.9%), OpenAI 1,528 (−2.9%). Anthropic gave back more today; the spread is still Anthropic's way.
- SPCX (listed, Nasdaq) 145.98 (−2.0%), still ~8% over the $135 IPO. Held up better than anything else in tech.
- Chip tape: "AI bubble" was the word all day. Memory (SNDK, SKHX, MU) and neoclouds (NBIS, CRWV) took 6–12%. NVDA −1.7% was the bunker. When the leader is the defensive name, the trade is tired, not dead.
- Tesla Q3 Wed 10/21 is the next AI-adjacent print. TSLA 353.83 (−2.3%) on $274M of HIP-3 volume.
🗞Headlines
- Nasdaq −2.1%, S&P −1.1%, Dow −0.3% — AI bubble worries took tech down 3%+, energy +2.5% the only winner. Rotation into oil. Bearish.
- Iran war, no end in sight — Brent $106, WTI near $100. Inflation trade stays on. Sticky.
- MSCI drops Strategy (single source) — passive selling into MSTR, stock −9.5%. Overhang.
- Strategy's last buy was 250 BTC — smallest of 2026. The marginal buyer is tapped. Bearish.
- BTC ETFs +$5.1M Thursday — smallest inflow of the month after Wednesday's −$261M. Apathy.
- Hot PPI hit alt ETFs — ETH, SOL, XRP funds bled after the print (single source). Risk-off.
- Polygon closed the Coinme deal (single source) — chains buying on-ramps. Strategic.
- LayerZero +23% midweek (single source) — ZRO gave it back to 2.07 (−1%). Faded.
