Market Close · after the US bell
Market Close — Thu, Oct 15, 2026
Dow rips 1% · shorts squeezed off 80K · Zcash back over 1,200
Tape as of 3:20pm CT (20:20 UTC) · Hyperliquid marks · 24h
📣The slate
- 80K held. Bears got a day and a half.
- Longs paid all week. Shorts paid this afternoon.
- Dow ripped while the chip trade bled. Rotation, not recovery.
- Zcash back over twelve hundred. One-day crack, round tripped.
- Crypto stocks outran the coins. Circle led.
- Starknet ripped on unlock day. Supply means nothing.
- Memes still fried. PUMP still the worst chart in the trenches.
- Oil and silver bid. Nobody is pricing a cut.
📉The tape
Flush in the morning, squeeze in the afternoon. The 24h is still a long massacre, but the last 4h belong to the bears getting carried out. Everything major closed the US session green.

REKT 24h $925M82% longs4h $35M · 76% shorts1h $7.7M · 90% shorts
Per coin (24h, long/short): ETH $238M/$53M · BTC $170M/$44M · SOL $24M/$6M · ZEC $12M/$9M · HYPE $7.4M/$0.7M. ETH ate more longs than BTC again.
Mood: relief, not conviction. Funding is pinned at baseline, nobody re-levered long into the bounce, and that's exactly why it squeezed.
🏦Macro
Hot CPI is still the regime and the market shrugged it off for a day. WTI $96.11 (+2.4%) with Brent $103 and the Iran war grinding on, gold $4,172 (+1.6%), silver $57.42 (+3.3%) both bid, copper and natgas red. Hike odds into the Oct 28 FOMC didn't go away, and the Dow ripped anyway, which tells you the selling was positioning, not a macro verdict. Warsh can talk tough; oil is doing his job for him.

- Indices: Dow did the lifting, Nasdaq flat. Nikkei cash closed ~5% lower in Asia on Kioxia and SoftBank (single source). Value bid, tech parked.
- Semis/AI: SK Hynix 980 (−5.0%) · DELL 474 (−6.3%) · NVDA 217.5 (−1.8%) · AMD 561 (−1.5%) · INTC 95.5 (−2.4%) · MU 929 (+2.3%) · ORCL 134 (+3.0%) · CRWV 70 (+7.1%) · MSFT 538 (+1.0%). Neoclouds bounced, Korea memory still the short. Vertiv −6%, power names nursing losses.
- Defense: PLTR 200 (−0.1%) flat; RKLB 55.7 (−6.4%) still getting sold.
- Consumer + crypto: CRCL 86.7 (+9.0%) · COIN 183 (+5.8%) · MSTR 151 (+5.1%) · HOOD 103.7 (+2.9%) · SPCX 148.8 (−2.1%) · TSLA 362 (−1.4%). Crypto equities did 5–10x BTC's move. Beta works both ways.
₿Bitcoin
- 82,346, +0.6%. 80K was tested twice in two days and held both times. Bottom-callers early, for once not wrong.
- ETF flows: Wednesday printed −$261M (FBTC −$153M, IBIT −$111M). Thursday's row not posted; Farside unreachable from here. The bid today was shorts covering, not allocators.
- Positioning: HL OI $3.44B, funding 0.01% flat. $170M BTC longs liquidated on the day, then shorts carried out in the last 4h. Clean slate both ways.
- Levels: 80K is the floor that matters. Back over 83.5K and this week's flush is a wick.

- STRK 0.0879, +13.6% on $81M volume, on unlock day. Supply hit, price up. Shorts who pressed the unlock got cooked.
- NEAR 5.38, +12.2% on $277M volume, OI $362M. Biggest real-volume green on the board. Full round trip of last week's flush.
- VVV 25.18, +7.4%. Venice bid back. ENA 0.205, +4.8%.
- LIT 3.07, −1.8% and MON −2.8%: the only CT names that couldn't bounce. Perp-DEX tokens still unloved. XMR flat at 548.
- SOL 105.9, +1.7% back over 100. ETH 2,460, +1.4% lagging the alts it usually leads.

| SPX | 0.3514 | −2.0% | $5M |
| PUMP | 0.004613 | −2.6% | $174M |
Memes fried, just less fried. The whole sector sat out the squeeze: flat while alts did 10%. Fartcoin went nowhere, DOGE red on a green day.
PUMP 0.0046, −2.6% on $143M volume, the worst large chart on Hyperliquid two days running. The launchpad token is the meme index, and it's still red. Trenches closed.
🛡Zcash
- 1,235, +8.2%. Lost 1,100 overnight, reclaimed 1,200 by the afternoon. One-day crack, fully undone. Disgusting chart for anyone who shorted the break.
- OI $629M (up on the day), funding 0.01%, $449M volume. Liqs split $12M long / $9M short: both sides paid.
- No headline, just the privacy beta snapping back with the alts. Zcon7 Oct 27–29, Zcash turns 10 on 10/28.
- Levels: hold 1,200 and the 1,300s are open. Lose 1,100 again and today was a dead-cat.
💧HYPE / Hyperliquid
- 81.97, +0.8%, back over 80. Funding 0.01%, OI $1.64B, $583M volume. Only $8M of HYPE liquidated in a $925M day: least-levered major.
- HIP-3 kept printing: SK Hynix $689M, NDX-100 $511M, S&P $427M, SNDK $272M, NVDA $248M, WTI $179M. The Korean memory trade lives on Hyperliquid now.
🤖AI & pre-IPO
- OpenAI perp 1,570 (−3.5%) still getting sold. Anthropic perp 2,049 (+4.0%) bid. The spread between the two pre-IPO names keeps widening Anthropic's way.
- SPCX (listed) 148.77 (−2.1%), still ~10% over the $135 IPO.
- Chip tape: memory split (MU +2.3%, SK Hynix −5%), neoclouds bounced (CRWV +7%), NVDA −1.8% third red day. AI infra (Vertiv, Quanta, Comfort Systems) took the hits. The AI trade is getting rotated, not abandoned.
🗞Headlines
- Dow +1% as the tech selloff pivots — rotation out of AI infra into everything else. Verdict: healthy.
- Nikkei −5% Thursday, Kioxia and SoftBank lead — Asia ate the AI unwind for the US. Verdict: overdone.
- Vertiv −6%, Quanta and Comfort Systems red — power and cooling, the picks-and-shovels trade, now the funding short. Verdict: crowded.
- BHP dives in Sydney as AI stocks fall out of favour — even miners got caught in the AI positioning unwind. Verdict: contagion.
- BTC ETFs −$261M Wednesday, FBTC and IBIT led — allocators sold the CPI. Verdict: bearish flow.
- Crypto liquidations near $1B for the second straight day — 82% longs, then a short squeeze into the close. Verdict: reset.
- Polygon acquires Coinme (single source) — another chain buying a fiat on-ramp. Verdict: strategic.
- Strategy's 250 BTC was its smallest buy of 2026, funded by a ~$21M MSTR sale — Saylor's bid is shrinking. Verdict: watch.
