Market Close · after the US bell
Market Close — Wed, Oct 14, 2026
Hot CPI · AI debt names nuked · longs flushed, ZEC −5%
Tape as of 3:20pm CT · Hyperliquid perps & HIP-3 · Coinglass · Farside · 24h
📣The slate
- CPI came in hot. Rate-cut dreamers cooked.
- AI-on-debt names got taken out back. CoreWeave and Oracle first.
- Crypto traded like a Nasdaq beta ETF. Longs paid.
- HYPE flat while everything bled. Again.
- Zcash gave back the week. Shorts finally got paid.
- Memes fried. Cashcat the lone degen survivor.
- Venice is the only CT coin with a pulse.
- Silver puked harder than anything on the board.
📉The tape
Hot print, red tape. BTC lost the 83s the minute CPI hit and bled through the US session; ETH and SOL did the usual 2x. HYPE refused to move.
| Perp | Price | 24h | OI | Funding/8h |
| BTC | 81,934 | −1.50% | $3.33B | 0.0100% |
| ETH | 2,432 | −2.98% | $2.59B | 0.0100% |
| SOL | 104.46 | −2.63% | $606M | 0.0074% |
| HYPE | 81.35 | −0.16% | $1.66B | 0.0100% |
| ZEC | 1,155 | −5.31% | $569M | 0.0100% |
REKT 24h $349M83% longs12h $304M · 88% longsBTC $72METH $65MSOL $12MZEC $12MHYPE $2.4M
Mood: a clean long flush, not a panic. $304M of the $349M came in the last 12 hours, i.e. the CPI-to-close window. Funding still pinned at baseline everywhere, so nobody flipped short either.
🏦Macro
September CPI ran hot and the market finally priced it. Two weeks before the Oct 28 FOMC, with a Fed that already hiked in September, a hot print means the December hike conversation is back on and the "cuts by spring" crowd can log off. Oil didn't care: WTI $93.87 flat, Brent $103.38, the Iran tanker war still keeping Brent north of $100. Gold $4,104 (−1.4%) and silver $55.60 (−6.0%) got hit by the stronger-dollar, higher-rates read, and silver's candle is disgusting. PPI and retail sales tomorrow 8:30 ET; a second hot one and this was round one.

- Indices: Dow flat, Nasdaq and Russell −2%. Afternoon made it worse than the midday −0.7%. That is a growth-and-duration selloff, not a crash.
- Semis/AI: CRWV 65.28 (−16.3%), DELL 506 (−11.4%), NBIS 186.72 (−10.2%), MRVL 245 (−9.0%), ORCL 130.50 (−8.8%), SKHX 1,032 (−7.0%), AMD 569 (−6.4%), SNDK 1,392 (−6.2%), MU 911 (−4.5%), NVDA 221.64 (−3.2%), SOXL −14%. Verdict: the market is pricing who borrows to build AI. The levered neoclouds are the short; AAPL +0.7% was the hiding spot.
- Defense: PLTR 200.59 (−3.7%). Fine, relatively.
- Consumer + crypto-adjacent: HOOD 101.08 (−8.6%), CRCL 79.58 (−5.9%), MSTR 144.00 (−5.5%), COIN 173.02 (−4.7%), SPCX 151.95 (−2.9%). HOOD is the high-beta tell and it got smoked.
- Financials: Bank of America ~−5% on a $1.2B+ regulatory penalty; BlackRock up on a Q3 beat.
₿Bitcoin
- 81,934, from 83,179 at yesterday's mark. The 83s are gone; 80–81K is the floor that held on Oct 8 and Oct 12. Lose 80K and it's June-low air.
- ETF flows: Tuesday +$175.7M (FBTC +$103M, IBIT +$66M), first real inflow day in a week after −$485M, −$244M, +$21M, −$65M. Today's print isn't posted yet.
- Positioning: HL OI $3.33B, funding 0.01%. BTC longs ate $59M of liqs vs $13M shorts. Leverage leaving, not shorts arriving.
- Saylor bought 250 BTC last week, smallest buy of 2026, total 848,250. The bid of last resort is on a diet.

- XMR 548.64 (+1.8%). The privacy rotation went from ZEC to XMR today. Monero up, Zcash −5%.
- STRK 0.0781 (−7.8%). Unlock lands tomorrow. The round trip continues.
- ENA 0.196 (−7.0%), LIT 3.15 (−6.4%). Perp-DEX and yield beta flushed together.

Memes fried, Cashcat excepted. +19% with funding at 0.10%/8h, 10x baseline: that's longs paying up to chase, which ends one way.
Launchpads: PUMP −5.2% to 0.00477, now within ~19% of the $0.004 ICO price; kBONK −4%. Neither launchpad token is catching a bid. Trenches: closed for CPI.
🛡Zcash
- $1,155 (−5.3%) from 1,219 at yesterday's mark. Worst major on the board after a week of leading.
- OI $569M, funding 0.01%, $287M volume. Liqs $8.1M longs vs $3.8M shorts: longs who chased the privacy bid paid.
- Monero up while ZEC down: the privacy trade rotated, it didn't die. 1,100 is the line; lose it and the Oct 8 wick at 1,112 gets retested.
- On deck: Zcon7 Cancún Oct 27–29, Zcash turns 10 on Oct 28.
💧HYPE / Hyperliquid
- $81.35 (−0.2%). Flat on a −2% Nasdaq, −3% ETH day. Funding 0.01%, OI $1.66B, only $2.4M liquidated.
- HIP-3 is the stock market after hours now: S&P perp $476M, NDX $364M, SKHX $278M, silver $272M, NVDA $199M, SNDK $177M of 24h volume. People traded the CPI selloff on Hyperliquid.
🤖AI & pre-IPO
- Pre-IPO perps: OpenAI 1,624 (−2.1%), Anthropic 1,973 (−3.0%). Both sold with the chip tape. Anthropic's S-1 is confidential and in.
- SPCX 151.95 (−2.9%), listed, still 12% over the $135 IPO.
- The story is AI credit: neoclouds and Oracle sold on worries that non-Mag-7 AI builders are funding the boom with too much debt. CRWV −16%, ORCL −9%, DELL −11%. The hyperscalers barely moved (MSFT −1.9%, AMZN −1.8%, GOOGL −2.1%).
- Chip tape: NVDA 221.64, AMD 569, MU 911, SKHX 1,032, INTC 97.90. All red, all on volume.
